Ever wondered how tuberculosis shaped modern medicine, or who the first paramedics were? The practice and science of medicine has a long and varied history interwoven with imperialism, politics, and cultural taboos. In this display, explore books from the Schow stacks on how social undercurrents and systems of power around the world have shaped and continue to shape the development of medicine and health care. While many of may be familiar with developments in medicine like the discovery of penicillin, this display seeks to explore the lesser known stories, injustices, and unsung triumphs of medicine and health care from medieval through modern times. Secret Histories of Medicine will be on display in the Schow Library through the end of the spring semester.
